Welcome to the September 2012 edition of the Bali Dynasty Newsletter.
We have had a busy month, not only at the hotel, but with other activities outside the resort and around Bali.
In this edition we will be looking at some of our in house promotions and also tell you about our latest trip to Pengalusan to visit the Children of our hotels' Charity effort in their school. We will have a special temple ceremony coming up in October and this month is as well the last month to have a chance to win a trip to Singapore with our Dine Out to Educate a Child program at the Golden Lotus! Have you tried our Rijsttafel dinner?
The Indonesian Rijsttafel, a Dutch word that literally translates to "rice table", is an elaborate meal adapted by the Dutch from the Indonesian feast called nasi padang.For those who don't know what that is: "The Rijsttafel consists of several traditional Indonesian dishes, such as rice and foods to accompany it: Curried Meats, Fish, Chicken, vegetables, Fruits, Relishes, Pickles, Sauces, Condiments, Nuts, Eggs and so on. The dinner is served with a plate of rice and chooses from among the side dishes to achieve a balance of salty, spicy, sweet and sour accompaniments. In true tradition, a Rijsttafel of 40 dishes was not uncommon, the meal sometimes taking three to four hours to consume."

'Clean Up the World'

Friday, 14 September was officially ‘Clean Up the World’ and to mark the occasion the South Kuta Beach Business Association consisiting of hotels, restaurants, schools and tourist attractions around the South Kuta Beach area participated to remove rubbish from the South Kuta beach along the front of the resorts. Everybody worked together in cleaning up large amounts of rubbish such as, plastic, cans, bottles and sandals that had been washed ashore.

Robert Kelsall, Chairman of the South Kuta Beach Association, reminded all those present that everyone had a responsibility towards the environment and if they did not start to respect the environment then the long term sustainability of tourism could be damaged with devastating impact on all those that worked in the industry. He urged those present to share the “waste” problem in their villages with their families and friends in order to reduce the waves of rubbish that envelope South Kuta Beach in the first few months of each year.
The theme for the worldwide event was "Our Place... Our Planet... Our Responsibility"

Adelaide School Prefects Raise more funds to help school in North Eastern Bali!
|
The Bali Dynasty Resort has supported the East Bali Poverty Project for over 10 years in their education projects and has become one of their top sponsors. In order to gain support the Bali Dynasty Resort communicates its’ cause to its’ travel partners, suppliers and guests in order to raise the necessary monthly funds to fund the education project in Pengalusan for 56 students.

In addition to this monthly commitment the Bali Dynasty Charity effort is committed to constantly improving the lives and future sustainability of the children and the villagers through assisting in other ways which will make a difference.
In 2011, Julie Ralph, a regular guest at the Bali Dynasty Resort and PR Coordinator for Adalaide High School convinced the prefects of the high school in their annual fundraising to raise funds for the Bali Dynasty Charity effort where she felt reassured 100% of her donations would directly impact the lives of the students. Consequently Adelaide High School donated around 20 desk chairs in October 2011 along with other regular guests, who had their names inscribed on the back of the chairs.
Julie recently visited the project in Pengalusan for the first time to see the impact of the donation and to be able to report back to her students in Adelaide how they had made a difference to the kids lives.

Overcoming Bali's congestion problems
|
The new underpass at the famous "Simpany Siur" roundabout is well under way and although causing some mayhem right now is hopefully going to eleiviate a lot of the current traffic problems since all roads from Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Kuta , Legian, Seminyak and Sanur all coverge on this roundabout! It is aniticpated the new road system will be on track and ready in May 2013!

"The construction of road underpass is the government's efforts in reducing traffic congestion in the city of Denpasar and Badung regency, especially in the area of Kuta which is a favourite tourist destination". With the completion of construction the toll road from Denpasar to Nusa Dua and the new Ngurah Rai International Airport will allow for smooth, accessibility for the tourists who come to Bali would be better", Djoko Kirmanto said.

Bali Dynasty's Temple blessing ceremony
In October at the Bali Dynasty we are going to hold the annual Hotel Temple Blessing Ceremony , or 'Odalan' as it is known in Bali. Every 365 days according to the Balinese Calendar every Temple and shrine has its dedication or inauguration day, which is considered its birthday. The Odalan is scheduled on Monday, 29 October 2012.
It will be a colourful spectacle with all our staff dressed in traditional costumes, yes, even the Western staff too! |

The temple and surrounding areas will be dressed with colourful pieces of ceremonial cloth, highly decorated bamboos (penjors), long flags (Umbul – Umbul), magnificent hand made fruit and flower offerings will be on display in front of the temple along with beautifully decorated ornaments of young coconut leaves, coloured cakes, rice and other products of Bali.
A bamboo podium is specially built for the occasion for a local High Priest who will lead the ceremony. |

Tour of the Month - Bali Safari Marine Park

Everyone loves the Bali Safari and Marine Park! The park is rich in Balinese culture with natural surroundings spread out over a 40 hectare plot of land which is located just south of Gianyar, Bali Safari Park is more than just a safari. It is very active in assisting and the protection and conservation efforts on behalf of those endangered species that are constantly losing their habitat. It helps science by carrying out many kinds of research to support wild animal conservation, campaigns and conservation education.
The park is home to more than 400 animals representing 80 species and officially designated as a wildlife conservation park, dedicated towards preserving endangered species through education and research programs coordinating with other zoological institutions around the world.
You can book at our Tour & Information Centre near the hotel lobby, it really makes for a great day out!
