Chinese Herbal Seafood Soup & Chicken Soup

From the 1^st of May to the 31^st of July 2014 Golden Lotus has prepared some delicious traditional Chinese Herbal Soups.

The herbal soups, being one of the most popular dishes among the Cantonese, are rich in flavours and consist of special Chinese spices and herbs known for their great healing benefits. Wai-san for example, one of the herbs known as an anti-ageing herb and is particularly beneficial for the stomach, spleen and lungs.

The soups available during the coming quarter are:

• Chinese Herbal Seafood Soup with Chinese Herbs and Apple
• Chinese Herbal Chicken Soup with Chinese Herbs, Innoki mushroom, carrot and bamboo piths

Adelaide High School (AHS) in South Australia has been sponsoring the East Bali Poverty Project (EBPP) since 2011, initially donating the money required by the Bali Dynasty Resort to purchase the remaining 20 ‘desk chairs’for 2 of the EBPP schools, while for the last 3 years it has annually supplied the funds to purchase new uniforms for the students and staff at Cegi and Pengalusan Schools, with the uniforms incorporating the AHS logo as well as that of the EBPP.

Julie Ralph and her family, regular guests at the Bali Dynasty Resort, visited the schools twice in the last 18 months and been able to see firsthand how the AHS money and that of all the other sponsors, including the Bali Dynasty Resort, is being used by the EBPP to assist these isolated communities.

During their recent visit to Pengalusan they saw the improvements to the school, the ‘desk chairs’ and uniforms sponsored by AHS and they visited the Pengalusan hamlet where they witnessed day-to-day village life which has only recently been enhanced by the connection of electricity to the area.

The family and the Adelaide High School community are proud to support the East Bali Poverty Project through the Bali Dynasty Resort ‘Make a Difference” program. 'We have seen how our money is making a difference' said Julie and applaud the wonderful work of the EBPP staff in ‘helping people help themselves’.

The Bali Dynasty Charity Effort raises money in various ways; through its’ annual Back to Bali Dynasty Party in Perth, the regular twice weekly quiz nights in Gracie Kelly’s and donation boxes around the resort as well as a $2 to check out promotion where the guest has the option to donate or refuse.

The Bali Dynasty Resort, through the Bali Dynasty Charity effort established in 2000 has supported the integrated education projects of the East Bali Poverty Project initially supporting Cegi and Pengalusan schools and now fully supporting just Pengalusan. The program concentrates on educating 60 or so children in the basics of reading and writing, mathematics, arts and crafts, health, hygiene and organic farming with the objective that they become self sufficient in the long term. Since 2000, the Dynasty has raised over 2 billion Rupiah in aid making the Bali Dynasty Resort one of the leading sponsors of the East Bali Poverty Project.

Galungan and Kuningan Day,  Wednesday 21  &  Saturday 31 May 2014

Galungan is a Balinese holiday that occurs every 210 days and lasts for 10 days. Kuningan is the last day of the holiday. Galungan means "When the Dharma is winning." During this holiday the Balinese gods visit the Earth and leave on Kuningan.

A long bamboo pole, or 'penjor', is made to decorate the entrance to the family compound. By late Tuesday afternoon all over Bali the visitor can see these decorative poles creating a very festive atmosphere in the street.

Although Galungan falls on a Wednesday, most Balinese will begin their Galungan 'holiday' the day before, where the family is seen to be busily preparing offerings and cooking for the next day.

Vesak Festival, Thursday 15 May 2014

Vesak Day is the most significant day of the year in the Buddhist calendar and is celebrated by Buddhists the world over. The day commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha and is a day of immense joy, peace and reflection. In Indonesia, Vesak Day usually falls in the month of May, on the 15th day of the fourth month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Borobudur is a central meeting point for Buddhists from all over Indonesia, and around the world on this auspicious day held on a full moon.

Congratulations Padma!

Employee of the Month, Front of the House is I MADE SUPADMA, or Padma to his friends. Most of you will recognise Padma from the Housekeeping Department keeping your room clean every day and he has been working at the Bali Dynasty since 1990. He has two children and enjoys shopping with his children.

Padma also has been nominated by the guests as very helpfull and friendly therefore our Guest Nomination Award went this month AGAIN to him. Well done Padma, we are very proud of you!

NI WAYAN ARLIN NIA SARI is Employee of the Month 'Front of the House' from the Spa and Recreation Department. She is one of our newer staff members and started at the Bali Dynasty Resort in June 2012 as one of our Spa Receptionists.  She is married with one child and she loves to travel and watch movies. Say hello to Arlin if you meet her in Ashoka Spa.
