Welcome to the July 2012 edition of the Bali Dynasty Newsletter.

Well we have seen the first of the high season and the hotel has been full to the brim during the school holiday period! The new Kids Water Fun Zone, kids Mushroom Paddling pool, Ashoka Spa and the High Flyers Trapeze School have only further enhanced our facilities for the whole family and in this edition we are pleased to announce yet another award for the Bali Dynasty Resort!

The weather in Bali at this time of year is at it's best the humidity is lower and there is a nice breeze, similar to a hot european summers day!

Bali is attacking the ever increasing traffic problem and the works on the tunnel at the large Simpang Siur roundabout are in full swing and completion is expected by May 2013 whilst the new Tanjung Benoa - Benoa bypass out over the mangroves is reported this week as 16% progress and anticipated to be finished in April 2013 as well which should alleviate a lot of the traffic!

Last month we were featured on Today Tonight in Perth over two nights when they produced the Bali Survival Guide and the things to look out for and be careful of whilst holidaying in Bali. They came in under cover and took samples of the hotel water in the taps as well as the swimming pool and had them laboratory tested; the results were not as they expected! The Bali Dynasty Resort water was deemed as good as the Perth drinking water (although we still recommend you don't drink it!) and the pool water was as good as any pool in Perth. So another bit of excellent publicity for the Bali Dynasty Resort!

As we look now into August, we are already in Ramadhan and will have a busy Idul Fitri period followed by the Balinese holiday of Galungan.

Don't forget if you have not already become our friend on Facebook, then make sure you do in order to be kept up to date on the regular happenings around the resort!

Enjoy the read!

Favourite Family Resort in Bali

Bali Dynasty Resort most Family Friendly Resort in Bali, 2012!

We are proud to announce that the Bali Dynasty Resort has been recognised as most favourite family resort in Bali for 2012 voted by the Holidays with Kids readers. This is the fifth consecutive year that Bali Dynasty Resort has been in the Top 10 of Bali's most Family Friendly Hotels & Resorts and we are proud to be the Number 1 this year!

As most of you know, we offer a host of family friendly facilities including a dedicated kid’s pool complete with the 56m Caterpillar Splash and the brand new Kids Water Fun Zone and mushroom paddling pool for the little ones. There is a special teens room known as ‘The Den’, with pool table, video games and an activity board to sign up for surfing, scuba diving and other activities, while the little ones will love the Kupu-Kupu Kiddies’ Club, complete with its own Enchanted Garden themed club house. For those aged between 5 -65, the resort recently added a Trapeze School where you can learn how to fly! All this should keep the kids busy while mum and dad relax at one of the six restaurants, five bars or at the adults only ‘lazy pool’.

Bali Dynasty has everything you need for a great family holiday and once again a big thank you for all of you who kindly took the time to vote for us!

We all are looking forward to seeing you at the Bali Dynasty Resort very soon!

Dynasty Song

We have just found out that we have our very own "Back to Bali Dynasty" song and we'd love to know who made it for us!

It was just by chance we heard it playing from a CD in one of our bars!

Have a listen and if you made it - please let us know!

New Dim Sum Sunday set up

Thanks to our guest comment card and the constructive feedback we have received from our guests with regards to the Dim Sum Sunday Buffet we have made some changes!

Our large steamer display has always been a good source for maintaining the steamed dim sum at a good temperature however we have recently made some changes to our fried selection with the addition of hot plates under the food as well as heat lamps. These changes ensure that the Dim Sum is more presentable and kept hot.

Over the past few weeks the Sunday Dim Sum buffet has grown in popularity as the word has spread about the improvements to ensure a more consistent Dim Sum.

Dim Sum Sunday lunch buffet runs every Sunday from 10am - 2pm and is just Rp95,000 nett per head for as much as you like whilst kids eat at half price! What better value is there in Bali and what a great way to spend a Sunday!

If you haven't tried for a while then make sure you come to Golden Lotus and give it a try, and of course don't forget to give us your feedback as to what else you would like to see improved!

Mushroom Paddling pool

As a further improvement to our Kids Water Fun Zone we have added the new Kids Mushroom Paddling pool which is well sheltered from the sun by the waterslide and a huge kind of almond tree.

The new facility as well as providing a safe and  fun environment for the little ones also has a seating area where parents may watch from and order food and drinks to their tables through our new pool butler service which consists of a button to call and page the nearest waiter for service.

Indonesia celebrates its Independence

On August 17 Indonesian people happily celebrate the Independence Day of Republic of Indonesia. The happiness is of their freedom from Dutch and Japanese colonization.
On this special day everything is decorated in red and white and everyone displays large red and white flags outside their houses.
Banjars organize a clean up of the area or kerja bakti. Drains are swept, weeds are cut back, debris is burned and public areas are repainted.

An important ceremony on this day is the flag hoisting at the National Palace, televised live. Full of pomp and circumstance and conducted basically the same way each year, it is a spectacle of the greatest respect and honor for the flag and for the Republic.

Meanwhile local neighbourhoods are preparing fun games for the kids such as sack races, kerupuk-eating, eel-catching, dancing with balloons, climbing, tug-of-war, recycle creativity, etc. Each province has their own traditional games. The winner of every game will get a present or trophy from the organizer, such as books, stationaries, food and drinks, or luxurious things like bikes, motorcycles  or televisions which are sponsored by large companies.

As a visitor to Bali you are always welcome to join in the neighborhood activities. Join in the fun ... and spend time getting to know the friendly locals!

MERDEKA!

Cultural Calendar

Ramadan and Lebaran Celebrations

Idul Fitri, more commonly referred to in Indonesia as Lebaran, is the celebration that comes at the end of the Muslim month of fasting, Ramadhan. Every day during this month, Muslims around the world spend the daylight hours in a complete fast. Muslims all over the world abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs during the daylight hours.

Hari Raya Lebaran will be celebrated on the 19th of August 2012 when most of the muslims will return home and spend time with their family.

Galungan & Kuningan Celebration

Galungan is celebrated every 6 months based on the Balinese calendar. Galungan is celebrated every 210 days. The celebration of Galungan is a symbol of the glory of the Goodness (Dharma) against the Devil (Adharma). Galungan will this year be celebrated on the 29th of August 2012. On this day, God joins the people on Earth and most Balinese will begin their Galungan 'holiday' the day before, where the family is seen to be busily preparing offerings and cooking for the next day. While much of this cooking is for use in the offerings to be made at the family temple, by mid-morning, once all the cooking is done, it is time for the first of a series of satisfying feasts from what has been prepared, which normally includes a pork meat finely diced mashed to a pulp with a grinding stone, and moulded onto sate sticks.
While the women continue to be kept busy with the preparations of the many offerings to be made at the family temple on the day of Galungan, the men also have another job to do this day, once the cooking is finished. A long bamboo pole, or 'penjor', is made to decorate the entrance to the family compound so that all over Bali the visitor can see these decorative poles creating a very festive atmosphere in the street.

This Galungan period is also a symbolic representation of a battle between good and evil, and the most important function of Kuningan is to celebrate the victory of good over evil so that the balance and harmony of the world can be maintained.

Kuningan takes its name from the fact that special offerings of yellow rice (nasi kuning) are made by colouring ordinary white rice with tumeric (kunyit). It is a time for family groups, prayers, and offerings, as their ancestors return to heaven.
