The impact of the global economic downturn does not as yet seem to be taking its' toll on Bali. Arrival figures recently released for the first two months of 2009 show a 3% increase on the same period in 2008 which is very positive. The Australian market has shown an increase on 2008 of more than 34%; 2008 was the biggest ever number of arrivals ex Australia to Bali with over 308,698 arrivals which was second place to Japan with 354,817 arrivals. South Korea shows the biggest increase in the number of arrivals with 42% increase over 2008 whilst France, China and Taiwan show an increase of 21%, 20% and 14% respectively. European arrivals to Bali overall have increased 2%. This can only be proof that "everyone" needs a holiday whatever the situation!
The Renovation of our North and South Pool wings are proogressing well and we are happy to say ahead of target so they will definitely be on line by the first of June as anticipated. Dinner at SEN5ES
SEN5ES is the latest restaurant in the Bali Dynasty Resort, providing informal dining in a simple but elegant setting. As the name suggests, smell, sight, sound, taste and touch are all stimulated by the open kitchen concept in which chefs prepare food in front of the guests. Formerly the Coffee Garden, Sen5es now opens for both Breakfast and Dinner. The open concept kitchen and large granite counters allow the chefs to cook and top up the buffet directly, allowing fresher, hotter food. The state of the art induction cookers ensure that the food is piping hot throughout the breakfast service. Sen5es is spacious, accommodating up to 142 people inside and 25 people on the adjacent private terrace. The additional seating capacity cuts down the queues at breakfast and enables people to be seated and served more efficiently. In the evenings Sen5es adopts a Pan-Asian theme with chefs cooking in the show kitchen behind the wok. A choice of noodles, salads and other mains is offered, all with Asian herbs and spices such as lemon grass, ginger, and coriander served in over-sized bowls.

Nyepi Day at Bali Dynasty Resort
On March 25th, on the evening before Nyepi day, the Bali Dynasty guests had the opportunity to carry the hotels small Ogoh Ogoh (Paper Mache statue) from the front of the hotel to the beach for a ceremonial burning of the statue. Everyone assembled outside the Kertagosa for a group photograph and a small breifing on what was required of them. Before setting off each guest was dressed in traditional sarong and headband, blessed with holy temple water, given a traditional Arak drink and an instrument or kitchen utensil to make as much noise as possible, the idea being to scare any bad spirits away. The Ogoh Ogoh was carried aloft and the procession headed through the hotel lobby for the beach. The statue was burned in much grandeur to rapturous applause from our in house guests and the many onlookers.
The Bali Dynasty staff and management joined the procession and deemed the hotel cleansed of bad spirits in readiness for Nyepi day.
A big thank you too all the guests that joined in the ceremony and helped carry our Ogoh Ogoh.

Recently a group of students from the International school in Singapore visited Pengalusan school with Bali Dynasty Resort Management as part of their Social Studies course. They didnt want to just visit and observe, they brought donations and requested some jobs to do during their visit to help out the school.
The East Bali Poverty Project, that oversees Pengalusan school quickly arranged a number of various activities and assignments for the group to participate in. To begin, a surprise Karate Demonstration by some of the children who are participating in the Karate courses kindly provided by Pak Mangku Pasek, a 2nd Dan black belt and former Indonesian champion. Then the students saw first hand how the children are learning to make handicrafts from locally grown vetiver grass.
A surprise for the Students came as 30 brand new school desks and new Biology Charts were presented to the children all kindly donated by Mr. & Mrs. Greg Evans from Australia and the Muk Family of Singapore. Then a spot of much needed wall painting as the group helped paint the outside of Pengalusan school.
The Students day was made complete by a visit to the schools Bamboo plantation to see how locally grown Bamboo is being used for building and many other uses.

Tour of the Month - Bali Treetops
This month we look at Bali Tree Top Adventure Park near Bedugal. 65 Treetop challenges await the adventure seeker providing a truly memorable experience and amazing panoramic views. Challenges include a series of arial activities such as Flying Foxes, Rope Bridges and climbing challenges. Each trail offers graded difficulty levels so as you progress from tree to tree the challenges increase and you progress at your own pace. Trails are for Adults and Children from ages 4 and up. The varying heights of the challenges on each trail range from 2 to 20 meters and you can experience the trail alone or as a group, or with friends or family. Throughout the entire trail you remain attached to a life-line support. Although the park uses natural resources for its challenges the park is environmentally friendly featuring protective half logs to prevent cables from cutting into trees to minimise tree trunk degradation and all trail platforms are held in place using an innovative compression system to protect trees from any damage. The park offers specially trained Patrol Guides to explain how the complete circuit works, complete safety instructions and how to use the equipment. For bookings contact our Guest Activities Center close to the hotel Lobby.

To all the wonderful staff at Bali Dynasty Resort. We would like to thank you all for our most memorable holiday. We have just spent the most idyllic 10 days and are sad to be leaving. We would especially like to thank everyone who was involved in our wedding; it was even more beautiful than we had hoped for. The setting was gorgeous and all our guests commented on how tasty the food was. We are hoping to return to Bali very soon and will again stay at Bali Dynasty Resort. A big thanks to the laundry staff who washed our clothes and returned them so quickly, to the very patient cleaners who had to wait most mornings to clean our room, to the very clever Chefs in SEN5ES who made our sensationally tasty Breakfast every morning and all the other staff who made it a joy to stay there.
