Shanghai Chicken at Golden Lotus
No one can quite agree on the origins of Sesame Chicken There's even some confusion about whether the dish originated in Shanghai or Szechuan as it bears little resemblance to any native Chinese cuisine from those areas. Although its origins are a mystery our experienced chefs at Golden Lotus prepare their Sesame Chicken using a famous Shanghai recipe. The dish is served in two preparations:- 1. The Chicken skin is cut thinly into small slices and wrapped in a Chinese pancake with spring onion, cucumber and black bean sauce is added to taste. 2. The shredded Chicken meat is then fried with black pepper sauce. The dish is traditionally served with white rice and steamed broccoli.
You can now enjoy Shanghai Sesame Chicken as one of Golden Lotus signature dishes from the 1st August to 31st October for the discounted price of only Rp.170,000++ available for Lunch and Dinner.
As you are aware when you are staying in the resort all our prices are listed inclusive of service charge (10%) and Taxes (10%). Many restaurants and establishments will often quote ++ prices and then have a fine small print at the bottom of the menu indicating the % to be added to the total bill.
Many guests ask what happens to the service charge? The service charge is accumulated on a monthly basis and equally divided between all staff (excluding senior management). As you can imagine; when we are enjoying good business levels, this can make a substantial difference to an employees take home pay and what a great way to motivate the employees and show them gratitude for their extra effort in delivering higher sales!
How did our Survey Go?
Last month we had a great response to our survey about whether guests prefer a bathtub to a shower. As we consider future improvements, it is essential that we are able to understand our guests expectations and thats why we ask you to give us your feedback through our new online survey.
Overall 62% of the respondents indicated that they preferred a walk in shower cubicle to that of a bathtub with shower. Nearly 73% of the respondents normally stay in a "couple" room type as opposed to a family room. However only 52% of those occupying Family rooms indicated that they preferred a walk in shower cubicle as opposed to a bathtub with shower.
Each time we do a survey we will announce a winner the following month, and for this month we are pleased to announce the winner was John Richardson from Australia who wins a Buffet Dinner for two to be taken on his next visit to our Resort!
Thanks again for the great response!
Our visit to East Bali
Every August 17th, Indonesian Independence day, the Bali Dynasty Staff & Management visit the children of the East Bali Poverty Project, which the hotel supports. The children were once again well turned out in their school uniforms. The day started with the formal protocol of the flag raising ceremony and when the formalities were finished the fun began. First it was a sack race, then a relay race, then a cracker eating competition. It was interesting to see how competitive the children were.
After the games all the children received a toothbrush and toothpaste each and Apples, Oranges and Towels donated by the Bali Dynasty Resort. Then the cabaret began and the children amazed us all with their dancing and singing skills. Also interesting to note that there were Balinese dancing, why is that so odd you may ask, well the children were never exposed to traditional Balinese dance as they had never left their villages before.
One of their Cabaret Dramas that really moved us was about how global warming and development is impacting life in their village as the village cows will have no more grass to eat and a scenario of the outsiders attempting to cut down the villages last tree. A very strong message from the children which was very emotional to watch. To complete the day, Trophies were given to the winners of the games and scholarships were presented personally to the children by EBPP Founder & Chairman Mr. David Booth. Congratulations to all the winners! You can support Bali Dynasty Resort's Charity effort by making donations to the account listed on our website or buy joining Gracie Kelly's Charity Quiz nights every Tuesday and Thursday, by purchasing Bali Dynasty Resort Merchandise, or making a donation in the donation boxes around the hotel. Donate and make a Difference!

Still great value for Money!
As some of you might have been aware, towards the end of last year all hotels were having difficulties in get wines and liquor supplies due to some changes and restructuring in the authorised distributors.
Of late certain supplies have been more difficult to come by once again and combined with the increase in fuel (up 27%) we are seeing the base liquor prices from the suppliers increase anything from 15 -30%. Imported liquor carries a tax of as high as 200% and this is why it is a common known fact for some time, that your drink bill will often outweigh your food bill when dining out! From the 2007 guest comment card summary, food and beverage value for money within the resort scored well with 84% indicating food was value for money and 79% indicating beverage was value for money. Our objective as a resort is to provide an array of different experiences throughout our five bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets and we will continue to endeavour to do that as best we can through our promotions and happy hours. Despite the negatives on the liquor situation, Bali is still for many, exceptional value for money and an increasingly popular destination. Where else could you feed a family of four in a four star hotel for less than US$4 per person from a buffet!?

The Balinese celebrate Kuningan
Falling 10 days after Galungan, Balinese Hindu followers celebrated their prosperity day of Kuningan on August 30th. This celebration is one of the most important events on the Hindu calendar and a very special spiritual time for visitors to the island to witness. To the Balinese, Kuningan Day is the time for commemoration as the spirits of their ancestors return to heaven after ten days of dwelling on earth. The Balinese express their gratitude to the Gods, ancestral temples are cleaned, special offerings are made, and dances are performed.
During this time the Balinese also celebrate the triumph of good over evil and also see this as a period of introspection and self-correction. Every village in Bali celebrates Kuningan in grand style, with several parts of Bali holding colorful festivals. The ritual provides an unprecedented opportunity for tourists to witness how local Hindu followers perform their rituals. One of the largest temple ceremonies to witness is always held at Sakenan Temple located in Serangan Island, known locally as Turtle Island. Situated in the southern part of Bali near Sanur.
