Peking Duck Promotion at Golden Lotus

The Golden Lotus is currently featuring Peking Duck as one of its signature dishes. You will be able to enjoy this famous dish on promotion each day for the next month.
Before you take up the menu, you might want to know more about how Peking Roasted Duck is made and how it is served. Peking Roasted Duck is processed in several steps: first the ducks are rubbed with spices, salt and sugar, and then kept hung in the air for some time.
Then the ducks are roasted in an oven, or hung over the fire till they become brown with rich grease perspiring outside which gives then their wonderful odor.
Peking Duck is always served in well-cut slices. The whole duck must be sliced into many pieces and every piece has to be perfect with the complete layers of the meat, although the dish is mostly prized for the thin, crispy skin. Normally there are many accompaniments served with the duck, including a dish of fine-cut shallot bars, a dish of cucumber bars and finally a dish of paste-like soy of fermented wheat flour.
The real secret of Peking duck's flavor lies in you carefully nibbling away at the complete mixture of all the accompaniments of which you will find all the different ingredients very compatible. But it is not necessary to order extra soup, for the duck-bone soup is always included in your order. It will be served as a side dish for the dinner.
The history of the Peking Duck can be traced as far back as the Yuan Dynasty (1206 - 1368). By the time of the early 15th century it had become one of the favorite dishes of the imperial Ming family.
Enjoy the delicacy of the Roasted Duck on your next visit to Golden Lotus.

After arriving at the start point, professional guides give you detailed safety instructions for tubing and the flying fox. From there, a special Off Road car will transport you to the Canyon slope and after a short descent into the Canyon, your adventure begins!
At some of the canyons more challenging spots you can either choose to use the specially made flying fox or the conveniently constructed wooden footpaths that take you safely past the obstacles. So whether you go with your friends or your family, everybody will enjoy this great outdoor adventure.

The Bali Kite Festival

The Bali Kite Festival is an annual international Kite Festival held for 4 days in July in the Padang Galak area, Sanur Beach, Bali.
Commencing on July 10th to 13th, traditional giant kites (from 4 meters in width and almost 10 meters in length) are made and flown competitively by teams from the villages (banjar) of Denpasar. The event is a seasonal religious festival intended to send a message to the Hindu Gods to create abundant crops and harvests.
Bebean (fish-shaped), Janggan (bird-shaped) and Pecukan (leaf-shaped) are three traditional kites flown during this kite festival. The kites are flown by teams of 10 or more adult kitefliers. The Bebean is the largest kite, and looks like a broad-mouthed, split-tailed fish. The Janggan form has a broad flowing cloth tail that can reach more than 100 meters in length. The Pecukan requires the most skill to fly, as its unstable form often tumbles towards the ground. Red, White and Black are the traditional colours used in the kite's designs. Each type of traditional kite has its own competition, with heats of 10 teams vying for the best launch and the longest flight. Sometimes the kites come down over the adjacent rice paddies, and the team members have to dash through the paddy to rescue the kite before it lands in the water.
A competition is also held for best 'New Creation' kite which may include detailed three dimensional figures representing the Hindu Gods or could be even kites that are sponsored by large companies. Traditional and new creation kites are constructed from bamboo and cotton cloth.
The competition will also attract Kite enthusiasts from around the world.

Charity Update

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to look at the video of the Pengalusan trip and commented on how much the video moved them. It was indeed a magical moment to see the children unpack all their school chairs.
If you have not seen the video yet we have left the link on our website.
The children are about to receive a large donation of art materials this month from a donor in Australia, a much needed commodity for their art classes, and the big news this month is that Pengalusan school participated in a provincial Karate Competition in Cianyar and one of the pupils came 4th overall in Bali. A mean feat considering they have only been taught Karate over the last few years.
Next week is the Government Junior High School Graduations and our Kids are eagerly awaiting their results.
Now that the rainy season is over we are planning to visit the children mid July and of course for our annual visit on Indonesias Independence day, August 17th, when the children will be holding their village and school celebrations.
A big thank you for all the donations in the form of clothes, school books, pencils, rulers, erasers and even some toys that you have so generously donated over the last few months.
