Charity Update

This month, we recognized World Mental Health Day on 10th October 2018. Many Balinese people live in rural settings away from crowded tourist areas. Without access to proper medical care, mental health issues can often go undiagnosed and untreated or be completely misunderstood.

Bali Dynasty Resort’s charity effort is an ongoing initiative, and we have proudly supported Solemen, an established Bali-based charity, since 2016. Through our voluntary $2 upon check out program, our guests are having a direct effect on hundreds of men, women and children as the Solemen outreach team works tirelessly to identify and assist a growing caseload of Solebuddies (people under their care). Solemen seeks to identify, treat, and inform individuals, families and communities on a case-by-case basis.

There are many ways that you can help support our charity endeavour. Join our Tuesday and Thursday Quiz Nights at Gracie Kelly’s, purchase a one-of-a-kind Bali Dynasty Resort Sole Teddy as a souvenir, or donate cash and goods such as medication, bandages, second-hand phones, etc. to the collection boxes located around the resort. Nusa Penida Festival 2018

The Nusa Penida Festival was initiated in an effort to promote the three neighbouring Nusa Islands of Lembongan, Ceningan, and Penida. Spanning three days, this year’s event will be scheduled from 7th to 9th December 2018. It will feature various artistic and cultural performances by the local residents themselves. The festival also aims to highlight the natural beauty of each island and the sightseeing attractions available for visitors.

New Shortcuts Roads, Tolls and Railways Planned For Bali

Nusa Bali reports that Bali’s recently-elected Governor has promised the construction of Point 5 to Point 6 on the Denpasar-Singaraja “shortcut” via Bedugul will be constructed in 2019. In announcing the new road project, the Governor also announced that the Sabargita Mass Transit Bus System will soon be abandoned to be replaced over time with a public electric rail system.

Governor Koster has already begun lobbying the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) for an electric rail system in Bali. At the same time, the Governor promises the new train system for Bali will be stylish and modern in keeping with the travel demands of a world-class tourism destination.

Point 5-Point 6 of the short cut highway between Denpasar and Singaraja will be 1.9 kilometers long connecting the Village of Wanagiri with Gitgit Village in the Sukasada District. Koster said once the train system is put in place his administration would commence work on a toll road between Denpasar and Gilimanuk.

Tumpek Uduh

Tumpek Uduh, also referred to as Tumpek Pengatag or Tumpek Wariga, is an event dedicated to Sanghyang Sangkara, the Balinese god of food. This event is held 25 days prior to Galungan, a significant festival held once after every 210 days. This year, Tumpek Uduh falls on 1st December 2018. On this day, offerings are made to this particular god in order to invoke blessings on the land. These offerings constitute crops and farm products from the many plantations scattered across the island.

The local Balinese community will usually engage in this traditional festival by placing their varied offerings at the base of select trees. Some will even go a step further and prepare porridge which is then poured on the trees. The aim of this ritual serves as a simple reminder about the importance of plants and natural vegetation as a source of food. It also revolves around pleasing Sanghyang Sangkara and asking for guidance on the cultivation, growth, harvesting and preservation of the plants.

The best comparison to this day would be the celebration of Earth Day globally. Balinese locals grasped the importance of conserving nature and preserving the environment well ahead before the rest of the world figured it out. This passing on of traditions from one generation to another is another marvel for visitors who would like to enjoy Tumpek Uduh. (Source: balitravelhub.com)

This place is perfect for families with kids. We stayed here for 4 days with our 5 and 7 yo. The resort is located very close to the beach and has a water play area within the resort which is what attracted me to the resort in the first place. The staff are really friendly and nice. The breakfast buffet spread is amazing. We stayed in deluxe room with extra bed and it was perfect for us. The resort has 3 different pools!!! Highly recommend this if you are traveling with kids.
