Bali is slowly re-open to International Travellers in October

Bali is slowly re-open to International Travellers in October

When the announcement was made to allow International travellers to arrive in Bali from the 14th of October it was based on the fact that it was a good day on the Balinese calendar that was put forward by the officials in Bali and as long as all the requirements and readiness of the task force were in place. This included type of visas, quarantine, tests and airport transport. Bali was not expecting flights to land from that day.

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan actually stated  "I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, has reopened for international flights on Thursday, October 14, 2021   as long as it fulfills the provisions and requirements regarding quarantine, tests, and the readiness of the task force."  The actual opening of Ngurah Rai Airport for international flights is also part of the easing of PPKM implementation for the next two-week period until October 18, 2021.

Bali Hotels Association is not aware of any flights scheduled, as the Government clearly stated that the situation on the ground in Bali needs to meet with the conditions set by the national COVID task force first.  We can also confirm that there are no official details as yet in regard to visas, actual flights or which hotels will be designated as quarantine hotels and the relevant booking procedure.  Once this information becomes available in relation to Bali we will share this on our one stop information site  www.welcomebacktobali.com

In the meantime it’s business as usual for anyone who has a visa or is a returning visitor to go via Jakarta and quarantine there. What appears in the media is not 100% confirmed or verified and may very well change at any time. (Source: https://www.balihotelsassociation.com/news/?ID=1066 )

Cultural News: Galungan and Kuningan Ceremony

Galungan is a Balinese holiday which celebrates the victory of dharma over adharma (the triumph of good over evil). It marks the time when ancestral spirits of deceased relatives visit the Earth. The last day of the celebration is Kuningan, when they leave earth. The spirits of deceased relatives return to visit their former homes and the Balinese have a responsibility to be hospitable and welcoming to their past ancestors through prayers and offerings throughout their home. The most obvious sign of the celebrations are the penjor - bamboo poles with offerings suspended at the end which line the roads.

A number of days around Galungan and Kuningan day have special names and are marked by the organization of particular activities. Galungan begins on the Wednesday of Dunggulan, the 11th week of the 210-day pawukon calendar. This means that there are often two celebrations each year (each approximately 7 months apart). All schools across Bali are closed for 2 weeks for the holidays.

3 days before – Penyekeban - Cooking of bananas for offerings

Families begin their preparations for Galungan. “Penyekeban” means “the day to cover up “, as this is the day when green bananas are covered up in huge clay pots to speed their ripening.

2 days before – Penyajaan - Making of jaja (fried rice cakes) for offerings

Marks a time of introspection for Balinese and a time to make the Balinese rice cakes known as jaja. These colored cakes, made of fried rice dough are used in offerings and eaten on Galungan.

1 day before – Penampahan - Sacrificing of pigs or chicken for feasts

The day before Galungan, pigs and chickens are blessed and ceremonially slaughtered to make food for Galungan including lawar, a kind of spicy salad and sate.

Galungan day - Praying at the temple

This is the climax of Galungan, the Balinese put on their finest traditional clothes to attend temple prayers with their families and bring offerings to share and enjoy after praying. It is a day to remind themselves of the long lineage of their ancestors and beautiful story they are a part of. The Balinese reconnect and renew their commitment to trying to make tomorrow a better day, trying to make themselves better each day. All the local temples are very crowded and colorful on Galungan, a beautiful time to observe the most fascinating part of Bali’s spiritual culture.

1 day after - Manis Galungan - Visiting family

This day is dedicated to spending time with family and visiting the extended family who may live in other parts of Bali. The roads are busy as many people are travelling and visiting sights together - i.e. going on a day trip together to the botanical gardens in Bedugul.

10 days after Galungan - Kuningan - Prayers, offerings - spirits return to heaven

After the Galungan period, the deceased spirits and ancestors leave their home and return. Hindu deities including Sang Hyang Widi, the Supreme God also visits to give blessings to all the people on earth.

11 days after - Manis Kuningan – Fun

This is the day after Kuningan where people spend their time with family and loved ones, mostly in their hometown. There are no religious ceremonies during this day, yet you can see the festivities from people celebrating the rest of the holiday and time off with their friends and family.

If you are visiting Bali during this incredible time, you will be able to see a lot of beautiful ceremonies and feel the spirit of the holiday. Be sure to ask your Balinese friends about how you might be able to join in the public temples and be a part of the celebration. You won’t be able to miss it with all of the beautiful penjor offerings hanging on the streets and all the music and celebration.

Guest Feedback

Our room attendant was very good, greeting us the morning and the surprise for my wife’s birthday cake on the bed and returning to the room looked excellent. Ashvin UK

The nanny I hired was perfect. My daughter had no problem going with her from the second they met. I would recommend her to everyone. Perfect for families, couples, everyone. The only suggestion would be that there need to be a shade over the playground. Jenna AUSTRALIA

Our recent stay at the Bali Dynasty was great fun. I have 3 kids aged 14, 12, and 6 and we all had a fun and relaxing holiday. It's not a long drive from the airport which is so nice when you want to get there quick and start your holiday without too much travel. We've stayed at the Dynasty twice, 11 years apart, and it's great to see how they have updated and maintained the property. Management and staff clearly work hard to keep the resort clean, safe, and fun. Also a great location with lots of restaurants and shops a quick walk away. Staff are lovely to interact with. Always friendly, always smiling. kdedsall THAILAND

All of the staff by the kids pool were amazing. They remembered my children’s name and laughed and joked with the all day long. It made the experience very special for them. Zakary AUSTRALIA

Always good at the Dynasty, we have stayed there many times and everything is always good. I book over the internet and always get a prompt response. The breakfast is good catering for many tastes. Airport pick up and drop off are always on time. brianwpa2019 INDONESIA
