East Bali Poverty Project

Since 2000, Bali Dynasty Resort has been a dedicated, committed supporter of the East Bali Poverty Project (EBPP). It is a local charity providing sustainable education, health, water, sanitation and bamboo reforestation and environmental programmes to impoverished families living in the 19 scattered mountain hamlets across Ban Village ,in remote East Bali.

Bali Dynasty Resort is one of EBPP’s most valued long-term supporters for its education programmes by first funding two of EBPP’s six hamlet schools, Cegi (April 2000) and Pengalusan (September 2000). Over the last 15 years, we have continued our commitment to community education by enabling EBPP to pilot a bamboo education and community development project. The village communities are now skilled in bamboo handicrafts and can produce quality bamboo products for sale. One of the products is woven wastebaskets, which are now used throughout Bali Dynasty Resort rooms , 500 having been made to date.

We are more than proud and happy to know that over the years, our collaborative work with EBPP has opened up new opportunities for sustainable community development in Ban Village.

Tanah Lot Baleganjur Festival

Tanah Lot Baleganjur Festival will be held on 3 – 5 July 2015. Taking place on the famous Tanah Lot Temple, this cultural activity will involve the baleganjur gamelan troupes from 23 customary villages throughout Kediri sub-district.The event aims to increase the sense of unity and togetherness amongst the traditional villagers. Baleganjur is a Balinese percussion orchestra dominated by traditional instruments like gongs, small gongs, portable drums and traditional cymbals. Bali's Cultural Calendar

Galungan & Kuningan (15 & 24 July 2015)

Great celebration is coming to the Island of Gods as the Balinese will celebrate Galungan and Kuningan—the most important Hindu holidays. Galungan is a Balinese holiday that signifies the victory of Virtue (Dharma) over Evil (Adharma). This important festival occurs every 210 days. It will begin this year on Wednesday 15th July and will last for 10 days. During this time, the Balinese gods and ancestral spirits descend to Earth to be honoured. They will leave on Kuningan, which is the final day of the holiday.

Before the day of Galungan and Kuningan, Hindu people in Bali are very busy preparing for the religious ceremonial offerings and Bali's streets are adorned with bright and colourful penjor, bamboo poles with offerings for the entire period between Galungan and Kuningan.

On Friday 10th July 2015, all of the hotels in the South Kuta Beach area will be participating in a Penjor and Gebogan Competition, organised by the South Kuta Beach Business Association (SKBBA) and Kuta Village, to prepare for Galungan. All the SKBBA hotels, together with other businesses in the area, will place their penjor in front of the entrance to their premises. Visitors to the South Kuta Beach area will be amazed by the beautiful, Balinese atmosphere in the South Kuta Beach streets during this 10-day celebration.

If you’re lucky enough to be travelling to Bali at this time make sure you don't miss this competition!
