Charity Update

Thank you for all the support and generous donations that have enabled us to establish and sponsor the Bali Dynasty Resort Care & Recovery Centre. This care facility replicates a nurturing home environment that provides the necessary assistance and resources required to keep families together before, during, and after medical treatment. With the centre now open and being operated by Solemen Indonesia, a non-profit charity foundation, Bali Dynasty Resort is focusing its efforts to cover expenses for a number of Sole Buddies who are currently in residence.

Bayu

Bayu is an eight-year-old-boy from Karangasem, Bali who suffers from cerebralpalsy and epilepsy. He has difficulties in talking and is unable to walk. Every week, Bayu must visit Sanglah Hospital to control his condition. Therefore, he requires a donation of approximately IDR 10.000.000 to cover his medical treatment and vitamins for 6 months.

Ketut

Ketut is a five-year-old-boy from Buleleng with a heart defect. He has suffered from this life-threatening condition since birth and as a result, he has malnutrition and is severely underweight for his age. Little Ketut requires a donation of approximately IDR 10.000.000 to cover his on going treatment and vitamins for 6 months.

Air New Zealand To Up Bali Frequency in 2020

Air New Zealand is set to increase frequencies from their home hub Auckland International Airport to Denpasar, Bali, several weeks earlier than its original peak season plans.

The service is operated by an Air New Zealand Boeing 787-9 (with three classes onboard), at peak season six days a week apart from Thursdays. This is one more day than the 2019 summer season.

The Business Premier cabin features 18 lie-flat seats in a 1-1-1 configuration, allowing maximum privacy but lacking any couple seating. Each seat has an 11-inch touch screen for entertainment, in-seat power (both outlet and USB), and noise-cancelling headphones. Business passengers can also order food through their entertainment screen outside of mealtimes.

The Premium Economy cabin has three rows of seats with 41 inches (104cm) of pitch. They are laid out in a 2-4-2 configuration. Premium economy actually has the same sized screen as Business Premier and in-seat power.

Economy is in the standard 3-3-3 layout with 31 inches of pitch. There are 263 seats in the economy cabin and it is rather unremarkable. The entertainment screen is only 9-inches wide and each seat has in-seat power.

There is also a fourth very unique seating option onboard the Boeing 787-9; the Economy Skycouch. Essentially if a passenger (say a family group) purchases three economy seats in a row on the window side, they can actually convert their entire seat selection into a couch. The sky couch seats have an additional long footrest that extends flat. (Source: www.simpleflying.com)

Mekotekan

The Mekotekan Ritual is part of the traditional Kuningan Festival that is celebrated to battle evil spirits that are said to attack Munggu Village.

Kuningan is held every six months according to the traditional Balinese calendar. It incorporates a series of rituals aimed at purifying the locals and the village. By eliminating any evil spirits, the locals are able to ensure that only good spirits remain.

One ritual involves men re-enacting the Blambangan war by walking to the temple carrying wooden sticks. They are sprinkled with holy water and proceed to position the sticks into a huge pyramid. Some men will climb the pyramid to “face-off” with each other whilst cheered on by the large crowd.

This ritual is believed to date back to the 17th century around the time of the Mengwi Kingdom. Legend has it that the Mekotekan ritual was conducted to welcome the kingdom’s soldiers back from the battlefield after fighting against soldiers from East Java’s Blambangan kingdom. On their way to the centre of the Mengwi kingdom, which was Munggu village, local residents cheered them as the winners of the war.

It was banned for a time during Dutch rule of Indonesia, around 1915, but the village resurrected this important cultural event and it remains today.Visitors are welcome to watch the ritual, though should not participate as it is considered disrespectful to the Balinese people. Galungan & Kuningan

Galungan enlivens the whole island of Bali. It marks the beginning of the Pawukon year.

A series of festivities, which start with the actual Galungan day, last 10 days and come to an end with the Kuningan celebration.

Galungan celebrates the creation of the universe, the victory of the good, Dharma, against the evil, Adharma. It takes place in the familial temples where, according to the Balinese, the gods come down to earth and the ancestors’ souls pay a visit to their family.

Galungan is always celebrated on a Wednesday.

Preparations actually start on the Monday as the women make various cakes that will be used as offerings. On the Tuesday, the men folk gather to kill pigs and the meat is distributed to make kebabs, blood sausages and other local dishes.
The men are also tasked to make penjor. These are finely decorated bamboo shrines with corn cobs, plaited palm leaves, yellow or white fabric and young coconut shoots, which they position on the side of the roads and in front of each house.

Festivities come to an end with Kuningan, which celebrates purification. On that same day, the ancestors’ souls are believed to leave the family temple and return back to heaven.

Find below the upcoming Galundan/ Kuningan dates in Bali:
