Bali Dynasty Resort Creates its Own Hydroponic Farm

Set amidst the hustle bustle of South Kuta, Bali Dynasty Resort is known as an award-winning resort offering fun-filled activities for families in a tropical environment complete with a beautiful lagoon pool. As part of our ongoing commitment towards supporting eco-tourism and green lifestyle sustainability, we have established our own mini hydroponic farm. The aim of this project is to provide our kitchen with a fresh and healthy supply of organically grown products. This urban farm also serves as a tool to educate staff members as well as people within the local community just how easy it is to grow selected herbs and vegetables in water. Under the supervision of  General Manager, Mr. Didit Indra, Chef Nyoman Suastika, along with the kitchen team recently participated in the resort’s very first harvest.

Located within our duck pond garden area, the hydroponic farm currently provides the resort with a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs that are totally free from harmful chemicals and pesticides. This eco-friendly initiative gives us unlimited access to organic produce containing the highest possible nutrients. Everything grown onsite uses no soil, 90 percent less water, 70 percentage less land and 50 percent less fertilizer.

“Hydroponic farming is an excellent method of growing plants in water without soil whereby nutrients are delivered directly to the root system. Green houses also provide ideal conditions as plants are able to grow strong and fast regardless of the season outside. Essentially, hydroponic farming allows for reliable and safe food production,” says Mr. Didit Indra, General Manager at Bali Dynasty Resort.

This initiative re-enforces the resort’s stance on sustainability and healthy lifestyle concepts by taking the first steps to help overcome food and water shortages.

Citilink Launches New Denpasar – Perth Route

Low-cost carrier Citilink launched a new route to connect Denpasar, Bali and Perth, Australia on 8th November 2019. This is the seventh route that the airline has established this year as it strives to bolster its international flight network.

Citilink President Director, Juliandra Nurtjahjo, said in a statement that the success of the new Perth route indicates that there is a need to join the ranks of airlines that connect Denpasar with popular tourist destinations in neighbouring Australia.

As a subsidiary of the national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, Citilink expects the new route to attract more foreign visitors to Bali, as Australia contributes the second highest number of international tourists to the island. According to the latest data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), a total of 118,556 Australian tourists have visited Bali this year, which is a 12.26 percent increase from 2018.

Citilink currently flies the Denpasar-Perth route daily with an Airbus A320 aircraft that can accommodate 180 passengers.

“Citilink hopes to launch more international routes in the future, including routes that will connect more regions in the country to other cities in Australia,” said Juliandra.

Previously, the airline announced that it would open new international routes to Frankfurt in Germany and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia in October and December, respectively. (Source: www.thejakartapost.com).

Tumpek Uduh

Tumpek Uduh, also referred to as Tumpek Pengatag or Tumpek Wariga, is an event dedicated to Sanghyang Sangkara, the god of food on Bali Island. This event is held 25 days prior to Galungan, a significant festival that takes place every 210 days. On this day, offerings are made in order to invoke blessings on the land. These offerings constitute crops and farm products from the many plantations scattered across the island. Balinese Hindus usually engage in this traditional festival by placing their varied offerings at the base of selected trees.

The aim of the ritual is to remind people about the importance of plants and natural vegetation as a source of food. The idea behind Tumpek Uduh also revolves around appeasing Sanghyang Sangkara and asking for guidance on the cultivation, growth, harvesting and preservation of the plants.

Visitors who spend time on the island around this period will be happy to discover that this particular festival also promotes an appreciation for a more harmonious way of life for all humans across the world. (Source: https://www.balitravelhub.com/events/).
