Golden Lotus at the Bali Dynasty Resort

Award-winning Chinese Restaurant, Golden Lotus at the Bali Dynasty Resort has just launched Hainanese Chicken Rice as its latest promotional dish for the next quarter. Named after the Hainan province in southern China where this dish first originated, Hainanese Chicken Rice is popular throughout South East Asia and it is now regarded as one of the national dishes of Singapore. It was also listed as one of the World’s 50 most delicious foods by CNN Go in 2011.

Hainanese Chicken at Golden Lotus is all-white tender meat prepared from a boneless spring chicken that is boiled in a chicken broth infused with spices. It comes paired with savoury garlic rice and chilli-ginger sauce that is slightly sweet and spicy.

Diners are welcome to enjoy a portion of Golden Lotus Hainanese Chicken for only IDR 145,000 nett, which is enough to satisfy 2 people. This flavourful dish includes moist chicken and two portions of Hainan Rice, accompanied by dipping condiments of freshly ground garlic-ginger sauce, chilli sauce and dark soya sauce. Hainanese Chicken Rice is available exclusively at Golden Lotus for lunch and dinner from 1st January until 31st March 2019.

Golden Lotus Chinese Restaurant is an elegant dining venue serving the finest Cantonese and Szechuan cuisines, and Dim Sum lunches. Charity Update

All of our Solebuddies hold special places in our hearts. Connecting with these amazing individuals and their families has brought so much joy to us, even more so during the holiday season. Without the tireless efforts of the Solemen Outreach team, none of the work Solemen does would be possible. For that reason, we want to give an extra special shout-out to Solebuddy, Ni Putri Arini.

Arini is a 17-year-old with the dream of becoming a nurse. Her long-term goal is to join the Solemen Outreach team after having seen, first-hand, the work that is being carried out across the island of Bali. These goals and dreams would not be possible without Bali Dynasty’s school sponsorship and your contributions. We commend her on her passion for her future and her commitment to her education. Thank you for giving her hope.

Another one of our brave Solebuddies is 14-year-old Eka Dewi who lives in Negara, Western Bali. Eka lives with a debilitating and painful skin condition, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). EB is a hereditary disease which causes the skin to become brittle and to blister easily. The specialist at Sanglah hospital is treating Eka’s skin condition. However, her biggest fight is yet to come. Eka has a growth on her right foot, which has been sent for biopsy. This growth keeps her from walking and moving around easily. Your generosity through the Bali Dynasty CSR program has provided for Eka ongoing medical attention, special cream for her skin, nutritional milk, and most importantly, a wheelchair to help her get around while she waits for her biopsy diagnosis.

Fifteen-year-old Nengah Sariada from Tabanan is so smart. Sitting in his wheelchair, you try to walk past him quietly, maybe sneak up on him as a joke. But he knows you’re there. He will be more likely to shout out at you first before you can say, “Boo!” And he always has a smile. Solemen was able to arrange an assessment with a local neurosurgeon and MRI and CT scan  to assess Nengah’s condition and needs. The diagnosis? Spinal cord injury which resulted in a malfunction that caused lack of mobility. Nengah’s resides in a simple dirt-floored wooden house in a very remote region of Bali where his parents work as coffee farmers. (His brother died of cancer at the age of 20.)  With all that he suffers from -- malnourishment and malnutrition, physical and mental disabilities, and severe poverty, Nengah still manages to look you in the eye and smile as if he is the luckiest boy in the world. Through your generosity, we have provided Nengah with a wheelchair, and we continue to monitor his condition.

Bali Government Bans Plastic Bags

The city government of Bali’s capital, Denpasar, has announced that it has banned the use of plastic bags in shops to start 2019 off on an eco-friendly note. This new ruling falls under Denpasar Mayor Regulation no. 36 of 2018 Concerning the Reduction of the Use of Plastic Bags, as was publicly stated by Mayor Rai Mantra. “It would be better if people bring their own bags when shopping. If implemented correctly, it will certainly have a positive impact on the entire island,” Governor Mantra said to Bali Post newspaper.

The bag ban, which took effect on 1st January 2019, will not be all-encompassing, applying mainly to “modern stores” (like supermarkets and convenience shops) and shopping centers. However, traditional markets will also be subject to the plastic bag prohibition as well, according to Head of Data Collection and Denpasar City spokesman, I Wayan Hedaryana.

“In the future, we also hope that everyone choosing to shop at traditional markets will support the cause by bringing their own reusable bags. The goal is for us to anticipate the impact of plastic waste early, especially since plastic is so difficult to decompose. Since last year, the Denpasar City Government has aggressively promoted the reduction of plastic bag use, and an effort is being made to distribute environmentally friendly bags on our weekly car-free day,” Hedaryana told Kompas newspaper

Cultural News

Tumpek Klurut

Tumpek Krulut, also known as Compassion Day, is an event that is celebrated every 210 days in accordance to the island’s cultural calendar. As a day when locals express their gratitude for life and all of its many blessings, it is easy to understand why this day is considered to be sacred for the Balinese. In addition to showing gratitude, people are also expected to show compassion to one another and, in particular, to be charitable towards the less fortunate in society.

For foreigners, this is the perfect platform to get a real feel of what Balinese lifestyle is all about as well as the daily activities that the locals are engaged in. In previous years, Tumpek Krulut has brought together tourists, the local community and religious leaders. In doing so, Bali prides itself as being culturally diverse.

Visitors on the island can be part of these celebrations by stepping out on 9th February 2019 to uphold the values that Balinese celebrate. Make an offering to someone less fortunate, or donate to a charity. Your contribution will be very much appreciated.

It was my first visit to Bali and I have to be honest because it’s a great island with beautiful beaches, The Hotel was really the best and the was something for everyone, a separate pool for the kids and good amusement for the adults. Must say their restaurants are super, good food and a wonderful breakfast. Hank013 NETHERLAND

First time to go to Bali and we started off with a week at Bali Dynasty. As a family of five with a age range from 1 1/2 - 11 and a adult daughter at age 19 we all had a wonderful stay. Staff was really attentive and heartfelt friendly and alert but still calm and pleasant :) Very all-including and good activities for children as well as for grownups. Especially around the pool. Nice children pool with waterslides and a shallow pool for the youngest children. Good and varied breakfast, nice buffet and genuine band playing cover songs around the tables which had a feelgood vibe and made you feel more than welcome:) We had two rooms interconnecting away from the poolside and they were very clean and spacey with balconies and good air-conditioning. No noise disturbance, neither night or day. Room service was really good and fast at all hours. The beach front was hassle-free compared to up the beach and the incense burning in the morning passing the shrines on the way to the beach was enchanting. Nice massage. Loved the pool bar. Good food in the restaurants. The whole resort was neat, exotic and at all times clean. The aussies also made a really good vibe in the resort:) Highly recommendable for families travelling with children. Thank you very much! Best regards from Norway:))) Michaelwiggin74 NORWAY
