“Helping Friends for Life”

After working with East Bali Poverty Project for the past 15 years the Bali Dynasty raised a total of 3.1billion rupiah. It is now felt that the project has reached a stage of sustainability and that our efforts can now be focused elsewhere.

Bali Dynasty Resort is now reaching out to the less fortunate people in Bali through a charity project called “Helping Friends for Life” in partnership with Solemen. The initiative represents our social commitment to the community by supporting the good causes in Bali.

Given the unique tagline, we are seeking ways to alleviate the suffering of several “Solebuddies” that we have and will adopt. Our main focus will be to assist them with sufficient funds to get medical support, health care, education and therapy, as well as to provide  items or equipment that can give them a better life and welfare.

Our charity commitment with Solemen has various causes where you can easily take part to support. Please click here to learn more of our charity and how you can help to make a difference.

Yayasan Solemen Indonesia or simply “SOLEMEN” is a Bali-based Indonesian registered non-profit foundation working alongside accredited agencies and projects to alleviate suffering and support the disadvantaged in Bali. Solemen was formed in October 2010 by founder Robert Esptone, who then vowed to walk barefoot until he raised a million dollars. The reason for being barefoot is “to be in solidarity with those who don’t have a choice to wear or not wear shoes”.

Solemen currently strives to provide health and safety education as well as teaching how to respect and protect the environment. Solemen has a very small team that are fast acting, with a huge knowledge of aid groups and rehabilitation centers across the island.

According to Traveller.com.au, Tigerair is currently promoting one-way fares to Bali Fares from Melbourne staring from $169, Adelaide from $139 and from Perth from $119.

Bali named centre for Clean Energy Excellence

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has launched the Clean Energy Center of Excellence (CoE) program. The CoE, stationed in Bali, will serve as the country's center for integrated researches, development and investment facilitation.

The CoE program is the main supporter in accelerating the development of renewable energy. Indonesia aims for renewable energy to account for 23 percent of the national energy output by 2023.

Direct flights from India to Bali and Jakarta are on plans

Indonesia's national carrier Garuda aims to launch direct flights to India this year to cater to the growth in business and tourism traffic between the two countries. Garuda Indonesia has received the Indian government's permission and the first service is likely to connect Mumbai, Jakarta and Bali, according to Indonesian officials.

Apart from Garuda airlines, AirAsia Indonesia X, a long-haul service arm of budget airline AirAsia, is also in talks with Indian authorities to launch direct flights. The airline is seeking approval to connect either Jakarta or Bali with Mumbai this year.

Having identified India as a key source market, Indonesia has stepped up its tourism promotion in major Indian cities. India is among the 90 countries to which Indonesia has extended its visa-free facility.

Bali is a hugely popular Indonesian destination for Indian travellers, especially newly-married couples.

Garuda Indonesia to fly direct Jakarta service from Heathrow

Garuda Indonesia is leaving Gatwick to launch a direct service from Heathrow. From 31st of March 2016, the airline will use its fleet of Boeing 777-300ER’s to operate a five times a week service to Jakarta, an increase to the three times a week service it currently operates from Gatwick, offering passengers a more flexible flight schedule. Flights to Jakarta will also no-longer stop at Amsterdam, with the move to Heathrow enabling the Skyteam airline to draw on transfer passengers to fly direct from London for the first time.

Even though this new Heathrow service will operate non-stop from the UK, the service from Indonesia will make a supplementary stop in Singapore, albeit operating as a direct service.

Arrival figures to Bali show the UK market to among the strongest performing European markets to the Island.

Bali Events

Bali Spirit Festival 2016 will see its 9th annual running this 29th of March through 3rd of April, once again gathering like-minded yoga instructors and practitioners of all different levels from Bali and around the world. The festival is also a celebration of east and west through world arts, dance and music through colourful concerts and performances. A packed agenda features numerous health and wellbeing workshops held in various yoga centres in Ubud and around Bali.

As in its preceding years, Bali Spirit Festival 2016 anticipates over 6,000 festival goers from various countries, who’ll descend upon the festival’s outdoor festival grounds. This year’s theme is ‘Tri Hita Karana’, a Balinese philosophical axiom that translates to a harmonious relationship spiritually, within society and the natural environment. In all, the festival sets out to foster positive change and spread messages of love and peace towards a global impact.

Cultural Calendar

Melasti Pilgrimages – 6th of March

In conjunction to the coming of Nyepi Day (the New Year according to Saka calendar), the whole island performs Melasti Pilgrimages. This is the procession where the Hindu people in Bali take heirlooms in long walks from temples towards the coastlines where purification rites take place. Parasols, banners and small effigies paraded along the horizon make for a stunning and only-in-Bali scene.

This year Melasti Pilgrimages will be on 6th of March 2016. Visitors can see the rituals in Kuta or Sanur beach. It is advised to check with the locals when the celebration will begin.

Nyepi Day – 9th of March

Nyepi is a Balinese "Day of Silence" that is commemorated as the New Year celebration according to Saka Calendar. It is a Hindu celebration mainly celebrated in Bali, Indonesia. Unlike the grand celebration of other calendars’ New Year, Nyepi is celebrated in a complete silence, fasting and meditation.

The island will observe Nyepi from 6am on 9th of March to 6am the following day. Local regulations concerning Nyepi that consists of no lighting fires (and lights must be kept low), no working, no entertainment or pleasure and no travelling will apply. All of these will make the island appear deserted.

Although Nyepi is primarily a Hindu holiday, non-Hindu residents and tourists are not exempt from the restrictions. Activities may be held with minimal noise within the hotels’ premises but it is strictly forbidden for the guests to stay outside onto the beaches or streets. The only airport in Bali remains closed for the entire day. The only exceptions granted are for emergency vehicles responding to life-threatening conditions and women about to give birth.

On the day after Nyepi, known as Ngembak Geni, social activity picks up again quickly, as families and friends gather to ask forgiveness from one another, and to perform certain religious rituals together.

Omed-omedan, Festival of Splashes and Smooches – 10th of March

The day after Nyepi on 10th of March, head up to the village of Sesetan in southern Denpasar for the omed-omedan also known as the “festival of splashes and smooches”. This is a much-localized event, pertaining to the lesser Banjar Kaja community of Sesetan. The youths take to the street where water is splashed and sprayed by the surrounding villagers, and the highlight being two sides, boys and girls, in a tug-of-war-like scene with successive pairs in the middle ‘forced’ to smooch at each shove and push.
