Charity Effort supports Aspiring Artist
The Bali Dynasty Resort has recently committed to supporting a young aspiring artist from a small remote hamlet in North Eastern Bali of which the resort previously sponsored the school back in 2000. I Wayan Lias is a young and very talented artist from Cegi and wanted to continue his education at the Fine Art Faculty at the University UNDIKSHA in Singaraja, for a degree in Fine Arts.
Lias is one of the students who stands out amongst other young artists and is an excellent painter. At his home in Cegi he works in a little studio which he built himself and shares his experience and expertise with other villagers interested in Art.
A selection of Lias' art will be available for sale at the resort and 50% of the money raised will directly go to supporting his education. After his graduation he will go back to the village to teach the knowledge he gained during his study to the community for the betterment of his community, especially for the younger generation.
Australia has dropped its travel warning for Indonesia to its lowest level since the 2002 Bali bombings. The "Reconsider your need to travel" warning has been challenged for the past ten years by the tourism body as well as the Bali Hotels Association. Ironically Australian arrivals in the last ten years have risen from 238.857 visitors in 2001 to 790,965 visitors in 2011 (thats an increase of 231%) and Australians are now the number one visitor to Bali respresenting nearly 30% of total arrivals.
The new warning advises travellers to “exercise a high degree of caution” when in Indonesia. We are living in a changing world and we all are more aware and conscious of the threats terrorism presents wherever we travel.
This change puts Indonesia at the same level of threat as Thailand, the Philippines and India.
The foreign office still cautions against visiting Central Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua and West Papua provinces, keeping these areas under the “reconsider your need to travel” listing.
Another winning race for Charity
Following our announcement back in February when we told you about avid dog racers and regular returnees, Graham and Noela Haswell who bought a greyhound and named it "Gracie Kelly's". Graham and Noela pledged that 10% from their 50% profit would go to the Bali Dynasty Resort Charity Effort!
Gracie Kelly had had a few lucky winning streaks and has been building up some prize money however a few weeks ago suffered a leg injury racing at Ipswich and therefore has had to stop racing whilst the leg heals, so we hope to see Gracie Kelly back racing in early June!
We'll keep you updated of any races on our Facebook so you can place a bet!
